Fikre Selassie Born John Gordon in Gravridge., Middleton, St. Thomas, Jamaica (the Love of the Trinity) is his baptismal name given to him on becoming an Ethiopian Orthodox Christian. Fikre’s career history fits none of the stereotypes commonly attributed to Roots Music’s popular stars. Today, as reggae enjoys a renaissance of young conscious artists like Luciano, Richie Spice, and I-Wayne is definitely a sign of his times. Heavily influenced by his Christian faith he is uncompromising in saying, Jesus Christ, is everything to his life and music, and through this medium he intends to propagate his faith. He made his stage debut at the age of eight years old, at fourteen he began recording dub plates for a number of sound systems including Youthman Promotion and Echo Injection, to name a few. His debut Album call “BLESSED IS HE”

Skibu joined Humal Records (an independent label based in Birmingham, UK), in summer 1998. His first tune with Humal was Your Smile, a tribute to his late Mother who used to tell him "Don't give up, keep on trying." He heeded her advice to the letter and you can hear the echoes of this message in Your Smile. Both Your Smile and God Almighty were released on single by the end of the year, with copies being pressed at Tuff Gong in Jamaica after assistance was enlisted from Jam Style's Homer Harris, the man who discovered Luciano and Sizzla. By July 1999, Skibu's 15-track debut album Surround Me With Love was ready for final mixing, and his latest singles It's Not Enough and Call On Me were receiving rave reviews. On it's release on the Humal label in November 1999, *Surround Me With Love was hailed as the year's most refreshing debut album, and was widely praised for its many outstanding qualities.

A change of pace and style comes along in the shape of Memphis, a five piece reggae band from Birmingham. No laid back slack-jawed chilled out jive here though. A vibrant vibe and a big black back-beat with balls! Brothers Earl and Keith Robinson on vocals project plenty of attitude and John Irish on guitar, Anthony Caines on bass and Victor Gift 'Veg' on drums back them to the hilt to produce a sound that has a style and power not produced by many reggae artists. A band destined to take this musical genre to new heights if given the opportunity.
